Benin : NGO Vinangbè trains motorbike taxi drivers on sensitisation and testing
6 March 2009
Pahou: About thirty motorbike taxi drivers participated in a training workshop on social sensitization and voluntary testing on February 19. Organized by NGO Vinangbè, the seminar aimed at making participants share the knowledge acquired with their colleagues on the field.
President of NGO Vinangbè, Pierre Codjo Méliho said the goal of the training was to intensify the struggle against STI/HIV/AIDS in Pahou, observing that motorbike taxi drivers constitute a risk group because of their mobility and permanent connections with young ladies and women.
President of Pahou motorbike taxi drivers, Jean Adankpinmèdé advised his peers to make the best of the lessons learnt by taking the test to know their status.
A workshop to make people pay taxes at toll posts
Cotonou: A workshop on “Road toll points and funding of road maintenance” was organized on 23rd to 24th February for transport unions, managers of Road Fund and those of Ministry of Road Transport.
Participants discussed difficulties in mobilizing essential resources for maintenance of the road network. Discussions showed that it is becoming impossible for the State to raise taxes on oil to maintain roads. This is why the idea of creation of toll and weighing points has become necessary.
However, because of lack of information several road users refuse to pay taxes at toll points. The objective of the workshop was therefore to exchange ideas to correct negative perception some people have about toll points. Participants decided to sensitize people on the necessity to conform to rules at the toll points.
